Snacks and superfoods – two of the most important things in life. Sign us up for all the single serve nut butters, kale chips, bomb protein bars, almonds, etc….you know I could go on for a long time here. I pretty much always have to have a snack on board because who knows when you might end up somewhere, starving, with no good food options?!?! Or like just in the middle of the day when life can’t go on until you get out of your low blood sugar zone.
Introducing my current favorite DIY superfood snack pack. This lil’ trio of toasted hemp seeds, cacao nibs, and goji berries is the perfect combo of crunchy, chocolate-y, sweet-ish, salty but not too salty, and nutrition-packed deliciousness. Organic, non-gmo, vegan, paleo-friendly, etc. etc. This combo is my new travel go-to. The mix is awesome on it’s own (just eat it right out of the container), added to instant oatmeal from Starbucks or your hotel or wherever you find oatmeal, and sprinkled on top of “protein frosting” if you’re into that kind of thing (i.e plant-based protein powder mixed with just a little bit of water – yes yes yes).
The magical trio. Here’s what we’re working with –
Organic Cacao Nibs – chocolate-y, bitter in a good way (you know). High in vitamins, minerals, iron, is a mood booster, and most importantly – is chocolate. If you want something a little sweeter, Navitas also makes cacao sweet nibs.
Organic Toasted Hemp Seeds – salty, crunchy, awesome. 4 grams of protein per tablespoon (!!).
Goji Berries – sweet, pretty, super delicious, and contains all 18 amino acids.
DIY Magical Superfood Snack Packs
Note on containers – I found 2oz containers with lids at Target (near the plates and napkins section…) that work great perfectly for this mix, but of course use whatever works for you!
Ingredients for 6 servings/packs:
- 6 tbsp toasted hemp seeds // The Natierra brand dusted with pink salt is awesome
- 6 tbsp cacao nibs // I like Navitas
- ~1/4 cup goji berries // I like finding these in the bulk section 😉
Ingredients per single-serve pack:
- 1 tbsp toasted hemp seeds
- 1 tbsp organic cacao nibs
- Sprinkle (about 1/2 tbsp) of goji berries
- Layer 1 tbsp toasted hemp seeds, 1 tbsp organic cacao nibs, and 1 tbsp goji berries into each of the the 2oz containers. Voila! Superfood snack packs ready to goooooooo.
