Hot New Finds At Expo West
Natural Products Expo West might be the greatest place on earth. I wish it existed year round. It’s a weekend filled with new product launches, awesome brand experiences, and of course a bounty of delicious food.
Below are some of the new foods, beverages, and products I’m am excited to see launch in the next few months (if they haven’t already!). It was impossible to explore the entire expo, so if you’re reading this I would LOVE to know if I missed something super fabulous. The list is currently separated into meals, beverages, protein, snacks, breakfasts, and treats. You guys, there’s some good stuff coming our way <3 <3 <3
Thanks to everyone involved for a fabulous weekend!
Hot new foods (meals)
Artichoke Burgers. The line of artichoke burgers from Five Star Foodies was one of my favorite things at expo. Lots of awesome innovation with vegetarian burgers, and and these artichoke burgers were outstanding.
Ps – The burger flavors are original, french herb, and tandoori spice. YUM.
Hummus stuffed falafel bites. Genius! Not sure how they get the hummus in there, but woah these are good.
Chinese Noodles + Veggies In a Cashew Cream Sauce. Amy’s had a cute little cafe set up displaying their latest products, including this one (cashew cream sauce whaaaaaat). They are also launching red curry and green curry frozen entrees that are phenomenal.
Hot new drinks
Lavenade (Water-Lemon-Red Cabbage) and Revive (Water-Cucumber-Pineapple) blends from Suja. The latest and greatest in their juice line <3.
Green Tea Coconut Water. I didn’t get a chance to try this but thought it looked like an interesting concept.
Camel Milk. I didn’t try this. Just wanted to report that it exists. The people around me described it as “earthy.” Hm.
Tera’s Whey Ready To Drink Protein Shakes. Excited to try these! Tera’s is also launching a new line of protein powders. Awesome company.
Rumble Supershake. This is a line of protein “supershakes” that are made in Canada and just launching in the US. I love everything made in Canada (hi lululemon) so it’s fitting that this innovative line of supershakes is from there. Super interesting ingredient list (protein, flax oil, pumpkin seed oil, etc – check out pic #3 for a close up of the ingredient list).
Plant-based superfood protein bar. RawRev – you (and these new bars) rock. My only regret is not trying this bar until I got home because I wish I had sampled all the flavors!! The ingredients are insane —- you guys it’s like a plant based quest bar. Ingredients in the Creamy Peanut Butter and Sea Salt (available here): Raw Rev Superfood Blend (Peanuts, Pea Protein, Organic Brown Rice Protein, Raw Organic Hemp Protein, Raw Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Raw Organic Chia Seeds, Raw Organic Sprouted Flax Seeds) Isomalto-Oligosaccharide (Prebiotic Fiber from Tapioca), Sea Salt.
Lemon Delight and Maple Almond Protein Bars from Think Thin. Woot! They also redesigned their packaging for their crunch bars (which will now be called protein nut bars….smart). They were also sampling their new oatmeal+protein cups. The best flavor was honey peanut butter. This was the first time I’ve seen peanut butter as an oatmeal flavor and I’m super in to it.
Paleo Protein Bar. There were a lot of paleo-inspired products at Expo, and egg white protein also seemed to be pretty popular. This combines both. Ingredients: Dates, Egg White Protein Powder, Sunflower Seeds, Almonds, Raisins, Apple Fiber, Hemp Protein Powder, Sesame Seeds, Coconut Oil, Water, Cinnamon, Vanilla Extract
Raw balls. Not sure I’m in to this name, but LOVE this product. Simply Dara’s Raw Balls. The flavors were original cacao, cranberry almond, apricot oat, and my favorite…dark chocolate chile. Ingredients in the Original Cacao: organic raw unheated almonds and walnuts, organic sun-dried dates, organic raw cacao powder, organic raw cacao nibs, organic raw agave, organic raw vanilla, Himalayan pink sea salt, organic raw coconut.
Snacks I want in my life
Crunchy Hemp Heart Bites. New for 2015 from Manitoba Harvest — bite sized hemp heart snacks.
Manitoba Harvest also had samples of their Pro 70 hemp protein powder in vanilla flavor. They suggested mixing it with greek yogurt (which I did) and it was SO good.
Goldenberry Ginger Superfood + Almonds. I can’t wait to get my paws on this new Superfood + Almond line from Navitas Naturals. The Cacao + Hemp flavor specifically. You guys these are insane. The Goldenberry Ginger is also fantastic. I didn’t try the Turmeric Tamari but I can only imagine it’s also fab.
Protein Chips. I liked both of these (sea salt and zesty nacho) and was super impressed by the “nacho-y-ness” of the nacho flavor. They use nutritional yeast to get the cheesy flavor – high five, ProTings.
Hot New Breakfasts
Overnight Muesli. Interesting to see that Kashi is getting in on this. These individual overnight museli’s will be out later this year.
Energizing Cereals. I have never seen flavors like this in hot cereal form. Lemon-Maple-Cayenne and Tumeric-Beans-Greens were the two I thought were the most interesting. They also had an energizing line with coconut oil and coffee. <3 These are new from Earnest Eats.
Quinoa Pops Cereal. I didn’t try this but thought it was an interesting concept. Puffed quinoa cereal in a few fun flavors with cute packaging.
Coconut Butter Cups. Like upgraded peanut butter cups. I am seriously shocked that these aren’t a bigger deal/thing. I’ve seen them in Portland, Oregon at a cool little paleo cafe and was excited to see them exhibiting at Expo West.
Cashew milk based ice cream. Yep that pretty much sums it up. 🙂
Frosted Sugar Cookie Kettle Corn. Oh hi. I love Angie’s (their packaging is always THE BEST!), and they’re from Minnesota. Watch out holiday 2015 — deliciousness on the way.
Dark Chocolate Covered Chia Seeds. The grand finale of this list is one of my favorite new products. These are dangerous because they’re insanely good. Chia seeds were quite the rage at Expo this year, but this is the only company I saw making chocolate covered delights. So good on top of yogurt and smoothie bowls <3 <3. They’re also making chocolate covered hemp seeds that come in a shaker bottle.
