Be still my heart, LA. This city is packed with amazingness. Below is a list of my favorite places/top recommendations for coffee, food, fitness, and just general happiness. The list is mostly divided by neighborhood (for easy navigating) with links to websites and/or yelp reviews.
Hope you have the best trip!!
GJelina To Go – The absolute best house made almond milk, bomb pizza by the slice, avocado toast in the morning. This place is one of my favorite places on the planet. Apparently they have some sort of prize winning pie maker, too (interesting story…you should ask them about it). I dream of this place 🙂
Another Kind of Sunrise – Bulletproof coffee, paleo granola with like four nut-milk options, and protein muffins with grass fed whey. Finding this place is like a little treasure hunt.
Tom’s Shoes/Roastery– Tom’s shoe store with a coffee shop inside. Also a fridge of fresh pressed juice from Juiced Served Here (get the “cream party” coconut one). This is their flagship store and it is money – especially the back deck.
Will Leather Goods – Awesome store and uhhhmmmm. Free espresso drinks always?! *Correction* Free GOOD espresso drinks.
About a mile-ish from Abbot Kinney (Superba is worth the trip)….
Superba Food and Bread – World’s best americano of all time ever. And they have a house made hazelnut milk. I mean. My only regrets in life are not trying their everything croissant and their almond croissant. Not to be confused with another place that’s just called “superba” and is in the same neighborhood-ish (lesson from experience!).
Whole Foods. Just in case you need a snack and a bottle of wine. 🙂
Cafe Gratitude – THIS PLACE IS EVERYTHING. Plus Beyonce likes it, so clearly it’s the best. Get the “I am happy” tostadas and/or the raw pad thai.
Grand Central Market — SO COOL! This place has a bunch of different cool little pop-up food and drink places. We saw them filming an iPhone commercial at one of them when we were here. Get the flight at G+B coffee and a slice of the kabocha loaf if they have it. 🙂
Pok Pok LA – Kind of all the rage for those in the know. If/when you go you’ll be like “wait is this really it? It looks like just another food stall.” But yes. It is it. Watch this documentary about the guy who created the Pok Pok empire before you go. Insider info – you order at the counter, add your own spices/sauces, and the drinks made with Pok Pok Som drinking vinegar are bomb.
Fitness and other awesomeness
SOHO YOGA in Hermosa Beach. Dene’s class was ahhhhhmazing. This studio is right next to the beach and a Paradise Bowls. THE BEST. Also right across from a Starbucks and a Chase Bank if you need either of those things. 🙂 It’s also the place where I happened to do yoga next to Karena and Katrina #speechless.
We happened to find a little farmers market on the way to class which was exciting 😉
Training Mate in West Hollywood. Super fun atmosphere for HIIT style workouts.
The Springs LA. Juice bar. Yoga. Wellness. Mostly raw food. Maybe all raw food. Gorgeous space. Cool/hip/artsy neighborhood. Lauren you would love it!!
Erewhon Market. This is a grocery store but a super next level grocery store. They have bulletproof coffee to go (and all the branded Bulletproof ingredients to purchase separately), a juice bar with chocolate cacao chia puddings and insane superfood smoothies that my brain can’t even comprehend…this place is heaven.
Pot Cafe at the Line Hotel. The line is a trendy hotel in Koreatown that most amazing sheets ever (I think one million thread count). The first floor has a little cafe called Pot Cafe which is where you can get this treasure. Green onion topped porridge with a surprise egg inside. If you haven’t heard of Roy Choi you should read about him on the plane. 🙂
Trip planning map below. Posting this in case it’s helpful to get a general idea of where these places are. Hope you have a great trip!! Till next time, LA! xo
